Surfer’s Basic plan now starts at $49 per (if paid yearly) and allows for to write/optimize 10 articles per , and audit 20 pages. Google’s NLP integration is provided for 1 , but the following months would require an additional charge. Their Pro plan is priced at $99 per (if paid yearly) and the Business plan at $199 (if paid yearly)
When we were doing more technical SEO analysis with , we’d often use Surfer and it provided very good .

However, we’ve since adapted our SEO strategy to become more -focussed, and now primarily use WriterZen (for keyword research/mapping) in conjunction with NeuronWriter and MarketMuse.
However, we see the price-point being the largest issue here, especially with beginner/intermediate freelance SEOs or small businesses who’re on a budget.

Frase is one of the newcomer SEO tools on the market, and since its launch has made quite the name for itself.
The primary use of Frase is to research and analyze SERPs for the you’re looking to target, and its very slick interface helps speed this process up dramatically. Based on the findings of this research, Frase then helps with constructing a brief, which can be semi-automated or even fully automated.
This brief can be shared with external writers, who don’t need a Frase account to access the , who can then begin writing the , whilst being guided by Frase’s , such as recommended word count, the number of headings/images, and specific H1/H2/H3/H4 requirements.
Finally, with Frase being an AI/Deep learning company at its heart, they also include a list of NLP for your writer to include, which is generated by Frase’s topic modeling algorithms.

Frase doesn’t provide in-depth backlink (off-page) or technical SEO analysis like Surfer SEO, so it’s certainly not for those wanting such features.
Page Optimizer Pro (PoP)
Summary
To provide a full disclaimer here, PoP is the only SEO on this list that we’ve not used. However, as an agency, we’ve spent a lot time researching to learn more about Page Optimizer Pro, reading posts and watching video demonstrations and tutorials of the in action.
With that being said, PoP is a refined on-page optimization developed by Kyle Roof, the data-driven SEO wizard. He’d initially developed the for his in-house SEO agency staff, but ended up also releasing it to the general public.
Similar to MarketMuse, PoP runs on its own patented algorithms, making the 100% unique.
The is solely on-page focused, and therefore doesn’t look at technical SEO or off-page SEO (backlinks).
Despite this, it gives tremendous value for money. And it’s always a topic of conversation in our agency as to whether we should assign some extra budget to it.

WriterZen is the newest on the block when compared to all of the above, but don’t let that fool you, it’s incredibly powerful.
WriterZen’s primary goal is quite similar to MarketMuse, in the core, fundamentals of helping create expert-written , and supporting clusters/topic clusters, which solidify the site (in both ‘s minds and Google’s algorithmic assessment) as being the go-to place for information on a particular topic.
However, WriterZen differs from the likes of MarketMuse, as it’s priced at a very affordable level, making it suitable for freelancers, small business’ and those startups which might not have huge budgets. They also have agency plans available.
WriterZen assists the user through the entire creation process, from topic ideation to keyword research, keyword mapping, and then briefing and writing (Google NLP analysis is available).
One of the biggest USPs for WriterZen is it has a unique keyword difficulty metric, which is based on the Keyword Golden Ratio (a concept that utilizes Google’s AllInTitle search modifier to identify that have high demand, but low supply in terms of the site’s which target them).
Not only this, but they offer a semi-automated way to cluster/map , which takes hours away from the keyword research and mapping process.
WriterZen has recently begun utilizing GPT-3 for their feature, which can be found in their editor, so they’re constantly expanding the platform’s functionality.

We use it for keyword research so we can determine what to target (taking keyword difficulty into account). We then use it to help with topic clustering/mapping, since it’s semi-automated thanks to WriterZen, and ultimately saves us a lot of time.
Who it’s not for?
If you have a keyword research and analysis , then you might not need to WriterZen. However, for the allinititle (keyword golden ratio) keyword difficulty analysis, and semi-automated topic clustering/keyword mapping, it’s well worth the subscription.
